BTU stands for British thermal unit, and it is a unit of heat. Specifically, a BTU is the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. Furnace outputs are measured in BTUs. When buying a new furnace for your home, you'll need to choose a furnace with the optimal output to effectively heat your home. For example, a 1,500 square foot property in Parksville requires a furnace with a minimum output of 40,000 BTUs and a maximum output of 90,000 BTUs.
